Thao Wessuwan — King of Yakshas
Thao Wessuwan, also known as Kubera, is revered as the guardian of the north and king of the yakshas. He belongs to the Four Great Kings who protect the directions of the world in Buddhist tradition.
The collection’s account connects his position as a lord of treasure with the merit of generosity cultivated over many lives. His familiar presence at temple entrances symbolizes guardianship and the protection of sacred space.
Artmulet’s Thao Wessuwan — King of Yakshas interprets these beliefs through contemporary Thai sculpture. The work is intended to encourage a responsible livelihood, perseverance and confidence supported by moral conduct.
