Garuda of the Sithandon Ocean
Phaya Suban, or Garuda, is a celestial being in Thai and Hindu traditions, renowned for extraordinary strength and closely associated with Narayana. Accounts of Garuda and the nagas trace their shared ancestry to the sage Kashyapa, and their rivalry to the story of their mothers, Vinata and Kadru.
The Sithandon Ocean belongs to the cosmological landscape surrounding Mount Meru. Artmulet draws on this world of legend to give Garuda a powerful presence through flowing wings, intricate ornament and a balanced sculptural silhouette.
The work encourages reflection on courage, dignity and perseverance. Painter Kriangkamol Nakbangkaew and sculptor Kritsana Naphunphon developed the composition for Artmulet, with casting by Asia Fine Art. It is conceived as a collectible work of Thai sacred art and a lasting family possession.
